Sectoral Policies of Punjab
Industrial and Business Development Policy
The draft of Industrial and Business Development Policy - 2022 has been formulated recently by Department of Industries & Commerce, Govt. of Punjab with the vision to transform Punjab into major Industrial and Export Hub. It envisions developing thrust sectors especially manufacturing and service sectors into world leaders. The Policy addresses STI needs in terms of access for technologies by MSMEs through setting-up of Technology Centres & Common Facility Centres; special incentives for technology acquisition from National Institutions; support for technology up-gradation, quality certification, product development, design intervention etc. It will also support and facilitate Punjab based start-ups through setting up of sector specific incubators, creation of common infrastructure & co-working spaces, focused programmes on Women and SC Entrepreneurship along with setting up of Skill University & Skill Centres for respective industrial clusters.
Punjab State Data Policy
The Punjab State Data Policy-2020 has been formulated by Department of Governance Reforms and Public Grievance, GoP. The vision of the policy is generation of digitized dataset of government services for evidence-based policymaking and programmatic decision making. The STI components of the policy are setting up of data centres at department, district & State level, implementation of cloud technology & Internet of Things (IoT) for data collection, establishment of IT based Management Information System (MIS) at department level, training and skill development of manpower involved in data digitization.
Agriculture Policy
The State Agriculture Policy has been formulated by Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of Punjab in the year 2013. This policy highlights STI needs in terms of development of tools & machinery for planting/harvesting, post harvest management of agri- crops, food security, setting-up of seed testing laboratories, crop breeding programs, livestock breed improvement, innovative high tech agriculture etc.
New and Renewable Sources of Energy Policyy
The New and Renewable Sources of Energy (NRSE) Policy was formulated by Department of Science Technology, Environment & Non Conventional Energy, GoP in the year 2012. The Policy aims to maximise and improve the share of new and renewable sources of energy in the total installed power capacity in the state. The STI components of the policy are promoting biomass/agri- residue/bio- fuel based projects, use of biomass for production of bio-ethanol, bio- diesel & bio- CNG, promotion of green technologies such as electric vehicles, compressed biogas for transportation, green battery technologies & carbon neutral building technologies, energy conservation & energy audit programmes.
